A.Galeria: exhibition brings together major names in contemporary art to reflect on nature and environmental urgencies
Exhibition presents, for the first time in Santa Catarina, works from the Andrea and José-Olympio da Veiga Pereira Collection, opening April 15
A.Galeria, at Passeio Cultural Primavera in Florianópolis, opens the exhibition “From Nature to the Artwork” on April 15, featuring a selection of works from the Andrea and José-Olympio da Veiga Pereira Collection, recognized as one of the most significant private collections of Brazilian contemporary art.
Curated by French curator Marc Pottier and coordinated by Sandra Makowiecky, the exhibition brings together 26 artists whose works establish different approaches to nature, at times as a source of sensory fascination, at times as symbolic matter, and above all as a political issue in the context of today's environmental urgencies.
The exhibition presents works in Santa Catarina by artists including Claudia Andujar, Ernesto Neto, Frans Krajcberg, Jaider Esbell, Jonathas de Andrade, Lucas Arruda, Marina Rheingantz, Paulo Nazareth, Paulo Pasta, Rivane Neuenschwander, Sandra Cinto, Vik Muniz, among others.
The exhibition highlights how nature permeates contemporary artistic production not as a landscape, but as an active force capable of provoking reflection on the relationship between human beings and the environment. Paintings, photographs, sculptures, installations, and videos make up a diverse collection of artistic languages and poetics.
The selection also highlights the presence of Indigenous and Afro-descendant artists, including Jaider Esbell, Kaya Agari, the MAHKU collective, and Ayrson Heráclito, as well as Claudia Andujar's historic work with the Yanomami peoples and Frans Krajcberg's pioneering trajectory in denouncing environmental destruction.
The Andrea and José-Olympio da Veiga Pereira Collection, built over more than four decades, has already been presented at institutions such as Instituto Tomie Ohtake, Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil Rio de Janeiro, and Museu Vale. Now, it arrives in Florianópolis in an exhibition that invites the public on a journey of encounters and returns between art, nature, and contemporary thought.
