The reflections proposed in the book “Art and Nature-Culture”, edited by Sandra Rey and published in 2025 by ZOUK Editora, begin with the understanding that the reality of the world cannot be resolved within the realm of art — although art is a privileged field for questioning it. By challenging the boundaries between art and nature-culture, the book brings theoretical perspectives and artists’ research into dialogue, investigating how the climate crisis and contemporary conflicts affect artistic production and call us to rethink values and foundations.
Sandra Rey is a visual artist and holds a PhD in Art and Art Sciences from Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne. She is a professor in the Graduate Program in Visual Arts at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS) and holds the ICESCO-UFRGS Chair “Art and Nature, Hybrid Processes,” affiliated with the UFRGS Graduate Program in Visual Arts, as well as serving as ICESCO representative at UFRGS. Her artistic practice is based on photographs of nature and elements captured and collected during walks through natural biomes. Her creative process is characterized by the intersection of art and life, exploring photography and digital processing to expand image-making through montages and intersections with drawing and painting.
