THE EXACT MOMENT LIFE BEGINS
There is a moment when everything begins.
Long before the first cell. Long before Earth. Long before any human memory.
Matter transforms. Stars are born and disappear. Rocks emerge, erode, and are reborn. Crystals grow in silence. The same matter that traverses the cosmos also moves through our bodies.
It is in this continuous movement that Denise Milan finds the origin of life.
Her sculptures, photographs, minerals, and fossils do not represent nature; they participate in it. Each work brings the visitor closer to deep time, where there is no separation between human beings and Earth, between the visible and the invisible, between the infinitely small and the infinitely large.
To walk through this exhibition is to cross geological, biological, and cosmic landscapes. It is to recognize that every form is born from a transformation and that every transformation leaves a memory inscribed in matter.
There is no absolute beginning here, nor a definitive answer to the question, "When does life begin?" There is an invitation.
An invitation to look again.
Perhaps life does not begin at a single moment.
Perhaps it begins every time we are able to perceive that we are part of the same story as Earth, the stars, and the universe.
